Hole 1 – Down the Wood

A really tough opening Par 3, measuring 206 yards off the back tee.

The hole slopes downwards from tee to green. The green itself is hidden from the tee box and can play anything from 9 iron to Driver. The green is deceiving and can catch many a golfer out, the green slopes away from you toward the woodland.

A good tee shot is required to avoid the trees left and right of the tee. Leave yourself short of the green and it leaves an unpredictable chip and run with all the undulations - try to fly it on and you run the risk of hitting the downslope before the green and flying through the back. Long is definitely to be avoided, too long and you're amongst the trees and left with a bank of some 8ft high to get up and down. If you are to miss the green, then left or right is a OK but your safest option would be to miss left, leaving a relatively easy chip to the sloping green.

A really challenging and daunting first hole. Take a bogey and be happy about it.
